March Beach Day

A beach day in March? Believe it. We spent the day at Sunset Beach in Cape May, NJ, and it wasn't freezing. The kids had a blast playing and digging in the sand. Evan even went into the 54 degree water.
The formation you see on the left side of the photo is a WWI era experimental Concrete Ship that ran ashore in a storm in June 1926. What remains of the ship (SS Atlantus) is still visible less than 100 yards from the shoreline. The beach is also famous for it's "Cape May Diamonds," small quartz pebbles that wash up on the beach that are clear, and resemble diamonds. For years, I've wanted to get a rock tumbler and make them even smoother, might be a good project for the kids another day.

Collecting "Cape May Diamonds" at Sunset Beach.

Eliana: Still won't let her bare feet touch the sand.

Tricked again! We have to trick them to look at the camera.
