Video Just for Evan

I was playing around with some of the sound effects in iMovie last night, I thought Evan would like this video of him...from Daddy.

Dinner & Entertainment

Untitled from Pete Burke on Vimeo.

Snowbound.

This is what I came out to this morning in Brooklyn. The snow plows had buried me (and everyone else) in. I had to do a little bit of hand digging, but I put the truck in 4 Wheel Drive, and just plowed my way out. That's my suitcase and backpack sitting on the snow.

I've been in New York working on a commercial this week. There were rumors of a snow storm on the news all week. First it was going to be 3-6 inches, then 6-9 inches, then 6-10. Last night, 19 inches of snow fell on Central Park.  We got clobbered. The first round of snow came in the morning and kept changing back and forth from snow, to sleet, then freezing rain. When the second wave of snow came, it hit very hard. I was leaving work around 9pm and it was near blizzard conditions. I think it's been since the Blizzard of '96 since I've seen snow come down that hard. There was thunder and lightening that looked and sounded just like a summer thunderstorm.

I put it in 4 Wheel Drive, backed up and pulled forward a few times, and I was free! Others weren't so lucky. I wonder if the spot will be there when I get back tonight?

3 Binkies, all in a Row.

Evan, who didn't want to go to bed tonight, passed out shortly after his 4th story book. He went to bed equipped with everything he needs, a blue flashlight, 3 binkies, a bottle, and my old dog, Barney.

'Barney' was around long before the Purple Dinosaur of the same name. I think I got him from my Aunt Helen in about 1978. It's fun to see Evan 'befriend' him and take him to bed at night. Barney kept me company many a night growing up.

Poopies on the Potty!

This is big news! Evan just left a message for my on my cell phone that he did pee pees and poopies on the potty all by himself! I called Genevieve right away and she handed the phone to Evan. Evan told me that he did "pee pees AND poopies on the potty" and asked if I could "come home to see it." Too funny. Needless to say, there will be no photos of this most recent and exciting development...

New Work City

That's what Evan calls New York. He knows daddy has to go there for work. One day he told me that when he was a "big boy," that he was going to work there too...

You Can Never Bundle Them Up Too Much

Hey, there's still room for a hat, scarf, and mittens! Better throw a blanket on top just to be sure, it's coooold out there! We got bundled up and piled in the car to go and check out the (Toy) Train Store, but, it was closed.

I Miss the Beach.

Eliana and Evan at the beach in Avalon, NJ. July 2010.

Yes folks, mid-January and cabin fever is starting to set it. The ground has been white for what seems like weeks now, and I don't think the temperature has seen 40 in I don't know how long. Thinking about spending days at the beach, warm sun, daytime naps with the windows wide open, still be light out at 8pm. (insert long, drawn out sigh here) Only 6 more months until summer. :(

More Late Nights

No TV until they're 3, right? That's what the good doctor said. But try doing that after one's been throwing up all hours of the night, and then the other one wakes up. Eliana and I have been spending a lot of late nights together lately. She goes to bed a decent time, but she's been waking up in the middle of the night, probably due to teething, and after she's waked up, it's hard to get her to go back to sleep. So, I let her watch TV for an hour or so. "In the Night Garden" is one of her new favorites.

First (Big) Snow of 2011

First of many I'm sure. It was supposed to stop by late morning, but it already looks like it was over by 2am. It just came, dumped about 6 inches, and left. I hear New York and Boston are going to have it far worse. Makes for pretty scenery anyway. Both kids were up all night again tonight. I don't mean until midnight, I mean ALL NIGHT. Evan's sick and has been throwing up, and all the commotion woke up Eliana, so she's up too, it's now 3:30am and there's no sign of them going to bed anytime soon. I'm hoping she doesn't get sick, but I'm concerned she may be next.

What are you talking about, Evan?

I'm not sure if this is what she's thinking or not, but the look on Eliana's face is pretty priceless.

Cousins!

Evan and Eliana got to spend some time with their cousins Mikey, Louie, and William on Sunday. I think they all had a blast playing together.

Eliana and William are right around the same age, within 2 weeks or so. It was cool to watch them interact.

William poses for a shot on the piano.

Mikey tossing up some wrapping paper. The kids got a little taste of Christmas and got to open presents since they hadn't seen their cousins over the holidays.
Louie. He's a cool kid.

The perfect gift. A custom made Brobee towel. (Brobee from "Yo Gabba Gabba.") I wish I had a better shot of the towel, because it's awesome. Eliana got a pink Foofa towel. I know these are going to be the only towels their going to want to use for a very long time...Thanks Jeanie!

I Like Spaghetti & Meatballs

Today was a fun day at the Lambert's house as you can see. I made some fried spaghetti for the kids for dinner, and earlier in the day Evan and I baked some Snickerdoodles and Ginger Bread Cookies. I haven't baked anything in at least 15 years, so it was a lot of fun. We woke up to more light snow this morning, and wound up getting another 2 inches, but Evan wasn't interested in going outside though, he just wanted to hang out with daddy inside today. Mommy took these great pictures of Eliana at dinner time tonight. Afterwards, we all piled in the car and did a little shopping. Mommy and I are starting to get ready for Eliana's First Birthday Party! Which is only a little over a month away.

Eliana is healing up pretty well from her fall the other day, although we noticed tonight that one of her teeth that was coming in on the top may have been misaligned. (I can't believe I spelled that correctly.) Anyway, I'm pretty sure a dentist is going to have to take a look at it pretty soon. She doesn't seem to be in any pain though.

Some Recent Photos From Mommy

Mommy got a new camera from Santa this year, so she's been trying it out with some great results.

Eliana. Always in motion.

Eliana's First ER Visit

Eliana cleaned up and  resting in her stroller in the waiting room area. We were in the waiting room for 4 1/2 hours before we were brought back to be seen by a doctor. The waiting room was packed.

In the ER. Eliana looks great. You can hardly tell she even got hurt. She does have some swelling and black and blue marks on her lip. We got home around 5:30am. I hope she sleeps in, Genevieve and I didn't sleep at all. She seems to be doing real well and slept a lot in the the hospital, which made the waiting part a little easier. Nothing was broken and she didn't need any stitches, so it looks like she'll be back up and running by the morning. (Afternoon, I hope.)

Emergency Room Trip For Eliana

At the hospital with Eliana, she took a bad fall tonight. Seems to be doing okay now, just waiting to have her looked at by a doctor. More details in a few...

Earlier tonight, Eliana slipped and fell on the hardwood floor. She fell so fast she couldn't put her hands out to stop herself in time and wound up landing face first. It was a terrible thing to see. I scooped her up right away and she let out a wail like I've never heard before. She started bleeding from her nose and lip almost immediately. The scene after that was chaotic as we scrambled to get everything together to get her to the Emergency Room. Within minutes, we were off in the car on our way to the hospital.

9:00 pm. Arrive at the ER with Eliana.

1:00 am. Still in the waiting room at the Chilren's Hospital of Philadelphia. We've been waiting for 4 hours now. 4 hours. Is our situation still an emergency at this point? The waiting room was packed, lots of kids crying, coughing, some throwing up. I'm starting to wonder if we'd be better off going home and going to our pediatrician in the morning. I know once we get back there and into a room, it's going to be another hour before we see a doctor. We waited this long, I guess we might as well wait it out. Eliana is fast asleep in her stroller wrapped up in a warm blanket.

1:25 am. We're now in a room in the ER waiting to see the doctor. I don't think we'll be home until morning. Eliana's good, she's fast asleep on the hospital bed.

3:00 am. Nurse came in a few times to check on Eliana who is still asleep. It's an unusually busy night at the hospital. The nurse told us we're next in line to see the doctor. I hope so. Fingers crossed.

4:00 am. One doctor came at 3:30. Eliana's in good shape. Contusions to her lip and inside of her nose.No concussion or fractures.

4:15 am. Supervising doctor sees Eliana. Injuries are minor, will heal on their own. Getting ready for discharge.

5:00 am. Finally leaving the hospital with Eliana

5:30 am. After nearly 8 hours (waiting time) at the hospital, we arrive home. Eliana went back to sleep and is doing well. It started to snow as soon as we pulled up in the driveway.

Chuck E Cheese

Chuck E Cheese: A 7 Foot tall mechanized rat.

Evan request that I take these photos of the "band" specifically.

We went on a weekday, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves and wound up spending a few hours there. I'll have to write more about it later, just got in from the ER with Eliana.

Coincidence?

Coincidence? I think not.

Daddy Day Care

Mommy's off to work today, so it's just me and the kids, home alone! Should be a fun day though, if I can get any sleep tonight! Eliana is really going through a tough time teething, so she's been up a few times tonight already. (It's almost 4am.) I'd better get to bed. Here's a cute picture of Eliana from our shoot the other day.

The "Daddy, Don't Take My Picture" Face

Now that Evan is 2, this face has been popping up more and more.

Seconds later, he gave me the smile in the post below. Takes a little coaxing from Mommy, but we can usually get him out of the grumpy mood.

Baby New Year 2011!

Shhh! Don't wake the baby! We decided not to wake up Eliana for her first New Year. She was sleeping so peacefully, we thought waking her up out of a deep sleep, dragging her outside in the freezing cold, while people bang pots and pans, with fireworks going off may be a little much for her. So, we let her sleep. Genevieve shot this just after midnight.
