Happy 2009!

We are definitely NOT in Times Square tonight. I'm crazy, but not that crazy. We're actually just having a quiet night at home. Evan is asleep, and Genevieve and I are playing Wii. We plan on waking him up for a few minutes around midnight for his first New Year's. Then, hopefully, he'll go back to bed. Hope everyone has a safe celebration tonight. Have a happy and healthy 2009.

New Year's Eve

[photo by Ava Lambert, 11, at Evan's Baptism]

2008. What a year. Definitely the best so far. It's going to be a though one to top, that's for sure. Evan being born changed everything for us. It's been such a great experience, everything I could have imagined, and in a lot of ways, way more. Everyday he gets a little bigger, grows a little more hair, his teeth show a little more, he crawls a bit better, notices more things, and is more vocal. The list goes on and on, and it's been so cool to watch him grow and react to the world around him. His smiles have gotten bigger, his laughs have gotten louder. He grabs things with his hands, stops to look at them, and really studies them. When people leave the room, he looks to see where they went. When he hears a noise in the hallway, he looks to see who's coming. Each new 'thing' that he does is like a gift.

Take today for example. I was taking a mid-afternoon nap in the room with him while he was asleep in his crib. We attached this toy to the side of his crib just the other night that plays music, jungle sounds, and has animals inside that move around. I heard him wake from his nap, then I heard a click, and the music began playing on his toy, then he laughed. I couldn't help but laugh myself. Here he was all by himself, and decided to play with his toy for his own amusement. When I got up to see what he was doing, there he was sitting up, (all on his own,) smiling back at me. For me, being a new father, it doesn't get much better than that.

Evan's Baptism

Photos from Evan's Baptism yesterday. See the full photo gallery on Flickr.

We had a beautiful Baptism Ceremony for Evan today at St. Dorothy's Church in Drexel Hill, PA. We couldn't have asked for a better day weather-wise either. Temperatures in the mid-60s in late December made for a nice party back at the Lambert's house, a lot of people were hanging out outside. Evan was so well behaved. He sat quietly through the Sunday service and and didn't cry at all during the Baptism. I thought he would have been exhausted from having such a busy day, but Evan had other plans. He wanted to stay up until midnight. I'll write a little more tomorrow, I'm exhausted. More photos as well, just wanted to get a few up. Big thanks to the Godparents, Andi, and Paul. Also special thanks to Frank and Marie for throwing us such a nice party afterwards.

Evan's Baptism Tomorrow

Evan's Baptism is tomorrow. We'll be going to the church for 11:30am mass, followed by the Baptism, then back to the Lambert's house for the party. Pictures of the Baptism should be up by the afternoon. We've been preparing for the party all day, and will probably be up well into the night getting everything ready. Mr. & Mrs. Lambert have been out shopping all day, and preparing food all night, so it should be a great party tomorrow. I have to get back to the kitchen...

'Twas The Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas, and little Evan is settled down for the night (we hope,) so we can now start wrapping, I mean we can start waiting for Santa to arrive and drop off loads of presents for Evan's very first Christmas. We're very excited about tomorrow morning. If you want to track Santa's whereabouts, you can do it HERE on the NORAD site. Santa was last sighted in Uraguay and Argentina as of about 9:30PM. I'll let you know if I see or hear anything on the roof.

3 Days 'Til Christmas!

Posted by Picasa
We finished all of our Christmas shopping for Evan a few weeks ago. Going Christmas shopping for the first time for my son was something I'll never forget, it really got me excited about Christmas again! Common sense told me not to go overboard with the presents being that he's only 6 months old, but it's hard not to. We got him some neat gifts, I hope he has fun on Christmas morning.
Most of the preparation this week is for the Baptism, which is on December 28th. We traveled to the ends of the Earth to put his outfit together. I didn't want to do the usual shiny dress-looking outfit that kids wear once and never see again until they find it in a box someday. I hope everyone likes the outfit we put together for him, we certainly do.

I just want Santa to go away....

I felt terrible, the siren scared him really bad. He didn't even care about Santa after that, he was too upset. Maybe we should have watched it from inside.

Everything was going fine until Santa hit the siren. Taken just a few moments ago...

Times Square, Rockefeller Center

We took Evan to Times Square for the first time on Monday night. It was a great night to be in the city, temperatures were still in the 60s.

Evan checking out the Muppet billboard.

His second time at the Christmas Tree in a week.

The first time, it was pouring rain, so I'm not even sure if he saw it.

Rockefeller Center on Monday night.

We had to bundle him up, because it was starting to get cold!

In Other News...

Achievements and Milestones:

Waving
Evan waved goodnight to his Poppop tonight. His waving seems to be more deliberate now, he extends his arm and bends his fingers back and forth. I was very excited to see this.

Crawling
His Grandparents got him a double-decker bus toy at Radio City the other night. It drives around, and when it bumps into objects, back up and turns around. Tonight, Evan crawled clear across the room several times just to try and grab it.

He's not standing or walking on his own yet, but he like's to do this thing we call "jumpy-jump." If you hold him up under the arms, he jumps really, really hard. This excites him and he wants to do it more and more, although, it's not good to do right after he's eaten. I'm surprised at how strong his legs are.

Teeth
The two bottom teeth are very prominent, and very SHARP. Still waiting for the top row. He was teething quite a bit tonight, so I think they're on the way.

The rain on that Thursday was epic. We had to bundle up Evan as best we could. He didn't complain all day, he was a real trooper.

Ava was excited about her first time in NYC. Waiting outside Radio City to see the Rockettes.

Outside the Brooklyn Diner, waiting for Frank, Marie, and the kids to come out of the Radio City Christmas show.

Now inside FAO Schwarz, safe from the rain.

I think Evan liked the Ugly Dolls.

I think he wanted to take the Lego Santa home...

Evan Meets Santa

We braved the 110 mile trip from Philly, wind driven, relentless rain all day, battled through the Christmas shopping crowds, but finally made it to Macy's in New York so that Evan could get his picture taken with Santa. He was so good that even Santa said to us, "you know, Evan was really good to say he's only 6 months old and his first time seeing Santa." When Santa tells you you're a good boy, you're a good boy. Santa knows.

I'll tell more about the story later, just wanted to get the photo up before I went to bed. I think I'm exhausted and I think I have pneumonia after today.
